Daren and Marlene

Daren John Rockwood and Marlene Kandace Beck were married on March 24, 2012 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.  It was a gorgeous spring day.  The sun was shining and it was fairly warm.  They made a beautiful couple.  Lon Huls performed the sealing and it was just perfect.  He is a friend of our family and so we had requested that he be the sealer.  Later we found out that many of her family also knew him and were distantly related.  That was a nice connection.  The room was filled with family and friends and others waited outside to share in the happy event.

We are so excited to welcome another daughter to the family.

Later that evening a reception was held at the Iona Church.  Marlene’s parents had spent hours in preparation and the place was transformed into a exquisite ballroom fit for a princess.  It was so elegant and one could hardly tell that you were in a gym.  Friends and family enjoyed wonderful food and dancing.

Of course the day wouldn’t be complete if the brothers didn’t get the car…Marlene had tossed them the keys at the Temple and that was about the first fight.  Daren wasn’t the happiest camper, but he got over it.  I’m sure he will plan his revenge for later.

Scott’s Mission Call

A big white envelope arrived today from Salt Lake City.  I had taken the day off from school to prepare for the wedding dinner tonight.  We had halfway expected it to arrive on Thursday, but when it didn’t we thought we would have to wait another week.  Scott was at work and so I had to just stare at it all day as I worked in the kitchen.

He decided to wait and open it at the wedding dinner that evening so that the family would all be together.  Such a busy and exciting time.  When the moment finally arrived I couldn’t hold back the emotions and the tears welled up in my eyes.  Weddings and missionary calls are wonderful, but for a mother it was a little too much all at once.

IMG_0228It was a lot of fun having so much family and friends with us for the moment.  He opened it, scanned for the place, smiled, and then finally read it to everyone.  He is going to the Jacksonville, Florida Mission.  He will report to the MTC on August 8, 2012.  When he read that part, he pointed at Steph and said, “You better not be late!”  The baby is due on the 4th and he wants to meet his new niece before he leaves. We will have a lot to do this summer to get him ready.
