Unfortunately our ten day trip was cut short with a forest fire. It started by the road that enters Redfish from the highway on Monday afternoon. We saw the smoke plume as we were coming back from the beach. The wind was blowing it south and there wasn’t an immediate threat to the campground, but they decided to evacuate the campgrounds about 5:30. We had been on alert and had most of our things gathered and packed. We had gotten the boat out of the lake already, so we headed for home. So glad that we were safe and had already experienced so much fun.

Maya’s First Birthday
Rod, Steph and Maya came to Redish early on Friday morning, July 19th. That also happened to be Maya’s first birthday. It is so hard to believe that she is already one. She is walking everywhere and such a little cutie. Her personality is a hoot and we love playing with her.
We started a tradition for the first birthday. I had several items that we spread out on the picnic bench and then brought her over. The first item they grab is a prediction of what they will be. Maya went straight for the baby doll and then took the book about school, so maybe she will follow after grandma in being a mom and teacher. Then her mother had brought chocolate cupcakes. She wasn’t too sure what to do with the burning candle. She smooshed hers and got it all over her face. So fun to be a part of her birthday.

New Homes
The summer started off with lots of cleaning, painting and moving. Rod and Stephanie bought a new home in Summit Park which is about three miles from our house. We hated to seem them go, but were excited for them to have a place of their own. It is a really cute home. We threatened to keep Maya with us, but in the end they stole her away from us. We still show up on their doorstep to play for a little while and they are good to stop by for visits often.
A couple weeks later Reed also found a home in Summit Park that he liked. He moved in at the end of June about four blocks from Rod. That makes it convenient to stop and check on both of them when we are in the neighborhood. With his move went Doug’s new little black friend, Sky, Reed’s dog. While Grandma goes to visit Maya, Grandpa has to stop and play with Sky.

Message Me
A couple weeks ago I rode with Doug to the farm for a couple hours. When we returned home there was a cute message on the dry erase board.
We couldn’t help but smile and head right over to their new home for a visit.
Of course I left it on the board!
A few days later, we came home to another message next to it… Love you Reed!

"If I had known how wonderful it would be to have grandchildren, I'd have had them first."
Daren and Marlene brought little Emma for a visit. It was sweet to have both granddaughters here. Maya and Emma are so fun as they smile, play, and make faces. We can never get enough of being with them. They are precious little darlings. We are so proud of the daddies our sons have become.
